What happens to pickup on a holiday week?

We observe six holidays a year. When one falls on a weekday, collection for that day and the rest of that week moves back by one day. A holiday falling on a weekend does not change the week at all.

We observe six holidays a year: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

When a holiday lands on a weekday, that day's collection and every day after it in the same week move back by one. So a Monday holiday makes Monday customers Tuesday, Tuesday customers Wednesday, and so on through Friday. When a holiday lands on a Saturday or Sunday, nothing changes and the week runs normally.

Two things people ask every time:

  • Your recycling week does not flip. If you are an A week or a B week customer, a holiday delay moves the day but leaves the rotation alone.
  • Put the totes out the night before the new day, not the old one. A delay week is when most missed pickups happen.

This year's dates are on the weekly and holiday schedule, and we announce each one on our Facebook page in the days beforehand.

Still not sure? Call the office.

We answer the phone Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If your question is about your own address, a call is always faster than a form.
