Missed pickups and schedule

My trash wasn't picked up. What do I do?

Call the office at 508-822-2208 and leave your totes at the curb. If we missed you, we schedule a truck to come back at the earliest opportunity and there is no charge. If the totes were not out when the driver came, a return trip is $30.

Did I miss the truck, or are you still coming?

If your totes were at the curb by 7 a.m. on your pickup day, you have not missed us. Call 508-822-2208 with your address and we can tell you whether your street has already been run.

I forgot to put my totes out. Can you come back?

Yes. Call 508-822-2208 and we will get a truck back to you as soon as we can. A return trip for totes that were not out is $30.

What time do my totes need to be out?

By 7 a.m. on your pickup day. Putting the totes out the night before is fine and is the safest way to be sure you do not miss the truck.

Which week is my recycling week?

Log in to the customer portal and check your service schedule. It shows which week is yours. If you would rather not, call 508-822-2208 with your address and we will tell you.

Why is recycling every other week in my town?

Recycling is weekly in most of our towns. It runs every other week in Hull, Cohasset, Scituate, Humarock, Hingham, Norwell, Marshfield and Rockland, and for in-driveway customers everywhere unless they pay to upgrade to weekly.

What day is my pickup?

It depends on your town, and in Cohasset and Hull on your address within the town. Monday is Berkley, Bridgewater, Hingham and part of Hull; Tuesday Dartmouth, Raynham, Westport, part of Cohasset and the rest of Hull; Wednesday Easton, Lakeville, Norton, Taunton, Whitman and the rest of Cohasset; Thursday Carver, East Bridgewater, Halifax, Hanson, Holbrook, Middleboro, Norwell, Plympton, Scituate and West Bridgewater; Friday Duxbury, Hanover, Kingston, Marshfield and Rockland.

What happens to pickup on a holiday week?

We observe six holidays a year. When one falls on a weekday, collection for that day and the rest of that week moves back by one day. A holiday falling on a weekend does not change the week at all.

Do you pick up in a snowstorm?

We run in normal winter weather. In a significant storm we delay the route to the next possible working day, and a bad storm can take more than one day to clear. We stay in contact when that happens. Delays go on the homepage, by email and on Facebook.

What goes in your totes

What can I put in my trash tote?

Normal household trash, bagged and inside the tote with the lid closed. Kitchen waste, packaging, pet waste, diapers, broken household items and empty aerosols are all fine. Nothing heavy enough to stop the tote being lifted, and nothing on the prohibited list.

What can I put in the recycling tote?

Cans, foil, plastic bottles and tubs, glass bottles and jars, and paper and flattened cardboard. All of it loose, not in bags, and emptied out first. No plastic bags, no styrofoam, no food-soiled paper.

Does my trash have to be in bags?

Yes. Trash goes in the tote bagged. Recycling is the opposite and goes in loose, never in a bag.

What happens if the wrong thing ends up in my recycling?

A stray item now and then is not a problem and we will still take the tote. Consistent contamination is different, because a badly contaminated load can be rejected at the sorting facility and landfilled as trash.

Can I use my old bin from my previous hauler?

No. Collection has to be from Carney Disposal totes. Ours are what the trucks and the routes are set up around, and using them is how we make sure your trash actually gets taken. The totes come with the service at no extra cost.

Extra and bulk items

I have more trash than fits in my tote. What are my options?

Anything that does not fit in the totes with the lids closed counts as extra and has to be called in before your pickup day. Extra bags are $5 for a tall kitchen bag and $10 for a contractor bag. If it is every week, a bigger or second tote is cheaper.

Do you take mattresses?

Yes. A mattress or a box spring is $55 each as a scheduled bulk pickup. Call 508-822-2208 before you put it out. A wet or soiled mattress needs a quote over the phone.

Do you take furniture, appliances and TVs?

Yes, all three, at a flat price per item on a scheduled bulk pickup. A sofa is $80, a refrigerator or washing machine is $75, a flat-panel TV is $60. Call 508-822-2208 to book it.

How do I schedule a bulk pickup, and how much notice do you need?

Call 508-822-2208 and tell us what you have before you put it out. We schedule it for your normal service day and send a separate truck for it. Do not set a bulk item at the curb without booking it.

Do you take yard waste?

Yes, on call, at $7 per brown paper yard waste bag. It is not part of weekly service, so call 508-822-2208 to schedule it. Yard waste cannot go in your regular trash tote.

What can't go in the truck at all?

Hazardous and pressurized material: chemicals, paint, propane and other tanks, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, asbestos, medical waste, liquids and anything flammable or corrosive. Most of it goes to a household hazardous waste day instead.

Pricing and billing

How much does trash and recycling pickup cost?

In 22 of our 28 towns, curbside is $30 a month for two 64-gallon totes, $35 for a 96 and a 64, and $40 for two 96s. Cohasset, Duxbury, Hull, Marshfield and Scituate are $35, $40 and $45. Norwell is $40, $45 and $50. Flat rate, totes included, billed quarterly.

How am I billed?

Quarterly, three months at a time. A $30 a month service is billed at $90 every quarter. Nothing is billed until your first collection, and you can pay in the customer portal, by autopay, by phone, or by check to P.O. Box 240, South Easton, MA 02375.

Can I add a second trash tote?

Yes. A second trash tote is $20 a month on top of your base rate, and a second recycling tote is $10. Call 508-822-2208 and we will drop the extra tote off.

Can I change my tote size?

Yes, and the first swap is free. Call 508-822-2208 and we will bring the new tote and take the old one on a scheduled day, and your rate moves to the new size.

What is autopay and how do I set it up?

Autopay charges the card you have on file automatically each quarter. You can turn it on yourself in the customer portal under Billing, or call 508-822-2208 and we will set it up with you.

I can't log in to the customer portal

Once the office confirms your start date, we email you an invitation with a temporary password and you set your own from that link. If the invitation never arrived, check spam and then call 508-822-2208 and we will resend it.

Starting and stopping service

How do I start service?

Fill in the sign-up form any time, day or night, or call 508-822-2208 during office hours. The form is an inquiry rather than a finished order, so we call you back to confirm your start date, tote size and pickup day.

Do I have to cancel my current hauler myself?

Yes. We cannot cancel another company's service on your behalf, so you need to call them yourself. Line up the dates so your last pickup with them and your first with us do not leave a gap.

When will my totes be delivered?

About a week before your service starts, on the same weekday. If your first collection is a Tuesday, we aim to have the totes with you the Tuesday before.

How do I cancel my service?

Call 508-822-2208 or email carneydisposal@gmail.com with your service address and the date you want your last pickup. Leave the totes out after they are emptied on that final day and we collect them on a separate run.

Can I pause my service while I'm away?

Yes. You are not billed while the service is paused, and any credit on the account at the time carries forward and is applied when you start back up. Call 508-822-2208 with your dates.

In-driveway pickup

What is backdoor or in-driveway trash service?

It is collection where you keep your totes, instead of at the curb. Our crew walks up your driveway, takes the totes, empties them and puts them back. It is also called backdoor service, walk-up service or carry-out service.

How much is in-driveway pickup?

From $115 a month for two 64-gallon totes, $125 for a 96 and a 64, and $135 for two 96s. It is available in all 28 towns we serve. Recycling runs every other week on in-driveway service unless you pay to upgrade to weekly.

What counts as "in the driveway"?

Anywhere you keep them. When the office sets up your account the representative notes the exact spot for the driver, so tell us where they live and that is where we will go.

Dumpsters

What can go in a dumpster?

General household and construction debris: furniture, wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets, roofing, yard debris and clearout material. No hazardous waste, no tires, no appliances with refrigerant, and nothing loaded above the rim.

How long do I get the dumpster for?

Residential hooklifts are a one-week rental and commercial rolloffs are two weeks. Extra time is $50 a week. Weight over the tonnage limit is $170 a ton, prorated. Call 508-822-2208 when you are finished, because we do not collect it automatically.
